Have just 2 days in Udaipur and not sure what to cover? We’ve got you covered with the best 2-day itinerary that covers city attractions with peaceful offbeat spots.
We planned a 5-day road trip across Rajasthan, and Udaipur was our second stop. We always like to keep a mix of city sightseeing and hidden gems, so this itinerary is just that.
We started from Jaipur on Day 2 and reached Udaipur by evening. Since we were pretty exhausted, we just went for a stroll and grabbed some street food by Fatehsagar lake.
Day 1
Karni Mata Temple
We began our day early at around 9 a.m. and the lines had already started forming. There are two ways to reach the temple, by stairs or ropeway. We chose the ropeway. Once you reach the top, a short climb takes you to the temple, where you’re greeted by panoramic views of the city, lakes, and surrounding hills.
This spot is also famous for its sunsets. A small tip: even if you go up by ropeway, try taking the stairs while coming down. That way, you can enjoy both experiences.

City Palace
Our next stop was the iconic City Palace. It’s customary to visit it when you’re in Udaipur, and we did too, though honestly, we didn’t enjoy the museum part that much. Once you’re inside, you have to follow the full route, but there are some really beautiful courtyards and balconies worth photographing.
After exploring, head toward the Jag Mandir boat counter or Rameshwar ghat. Even if you don’t plan on boating, the ghat itself is worth a visit. We skipped boating here because we wanted to save it for a sunset ride later.

Gangaur Ghat & Bagore ki Haveli
Bagore Ki Haveli is a cultural museum that beautifully showcases Rajasthani heritage. What stood out for us were the intricate carvings, colorful glasswork, and ornate balconies overlooking the lake. The haveli also hosts evening cultural shows that include traditional dance and music performances.
Afterwards, we walked to Gangaur Ghat, where we sat for a while listening to a local musician playing the flute.

Saheliyon ki Bari
This beautiful garden was built by the Maharaja for royal ladies and their companions. The lotus pools, marble elephants, and fountains create a soothing and regal atmosphere - a lovely place for a calm break amidst all the sightseeing.

Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace)
We ended the day at Sajjangarh Palace, the highest point in Udaipur and the best place to watch the sunset. While the palace museum may not be very impressive, the views are absolutely stunning. You can see the entire city of Udaipur spread out below.
You can either drive your own vehicle or take a shared jeep to the top. The route is quite scenic! After sunset, we returned to the city and spent the evening exploring local cafés and markets.
Day 2 - Exploring Around Udaipur (Offbeat)
Bahubali Hills
Located about 30 minutes from Udaipur, this short trek offers 360° views of Badi Lake. You can rent a bike or hire a cab/auto to get there. The drive itself is picturesque, and the view from the top makes it completely worth it. This place has stopped showing up on google maps but you can find many articles on google for exact location.

Alsigarh Village
Next, we explored Alsigarh, an offbeat gem outside Udaipur. This small village is surrounded by lush green hills, natural lakes, and peaceful countryside views.
We followed a YouTube video to find the exact viewpoint, after a bit of off-roading and direction-hunting, we reached the spot. It was serene and quiet, with only a handful of people around. We spent over two hours just sitting there, listening to the sound of flowing water and the wind.
A few tips: Village kids might approach you for money. Politely tell them you’ll give it on your way back, it keeps them from pestering you. Carry your trash back with you to keep the place clean. There’s also a dam nearby, which is another viewpoint worth checking out.
We rarely say this, but this place was completely worth visiting, especially in the monsoon when the hills turn lush green.

Lake Pichola Sunset Boat Ride
After returning from Alsigarh, we decided to do the sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola. Initially, we just wanted to check it off our list, but as soon as we saw the golden rays of the setting sun reflecting on the lake, we were glad we didn’t skip it.
Lake Pichola
Ambrai Ghat
We reached Ambrai Ghat a bit late for sunset, but it was still magical. Watching the city’s golden lights turn on across the lake while sitting on the ghat steps was the perfect ending to our trip. This easily became our favorite spot in Udaipur.

Some Observations About Udaipur
- You’ll spot plenty of couples doing pre-wedding photoshoots, we saw at least 4-5 around the city.
- On our drive from Jaipur to Udaipur, we kept spotting cows sitting right in the middle of the road every few kilometers, totally unbothered, as if the highways were built just for them to chill!
- Udaipur truly has something for everyone, whether you’re a solo traveler sitting quietly by the ghats, a couple enjoying romantic lakeside cafés, or a family exploring historical palaces, Udaipur has it all!
Wrapping Up
This wraps up our 2-day itinerary for Udaipur. We’ve mentioned quite a few sunset spots because, honestly, the whole city looks magical at that hour, no matter where you are.
We could have included more historical sites, but for us, the perfect trip is a mix of iconic and offbeat. Also, the pictures you see in this blog are from two different trips - one I did solo and one we took together. That’s why you’ll notice some photos are bright and sunny while others are cloudy. But we followed the exact same itinerary, so it’s completely doable as shared.
